L.A. Nik - The Last Standing Night Club in DowntownMinneapolis

L.A. Nik - The Last Standing Night Club in Downtown Minneapolis.

Wikipedia defines "Night Club" as this: A nightclub (also known as a discothéque, or simply a club or disco) is an entertainment venue which usually operates late into the night. A nightclub is generally distinguished from bars, pubs, or taverns by the inclusion of a dance floor and a DJ booth, where a DJ plays recorded music.

If you "lived" in the 70's or 80's, you got to experience the genuine real deal nightclubs - that is, if you frequented these types of venues... I did, and I believe I've seen them all at one point or another, in nearly every country. They were the destination spot for the nighttime party goers. Like the 80's those days are gone - mostly.

The definition above would include nearly every venue in town. Most of the bars and restaurants in downtown Minneapolis have tried to capture the night club crowd by converting their space late at night with DJ's, bottle service, and other perks to entice people to stay late. The list includes top end restaurants, historic niche restaurants, bars, and even hotels. But ultimately, they are still restaurants and bars - not clubs.

There are some things that make a "Night Club", a Night Club, and in my opinion there is only one in downtown Minneapolis. First of all, a "Club" opens no earlier than 10pm. They often serve only booze and have a focus on night life experience only. Very few of these great night clubs still exist in downtown Minneapolis. Minneapolis has had it's share with the most famous being Prince's Glam Slam.
Early 1990's - Prince's Glam Slam
The building that housed Glam Slam existed as a night club for about 16 years, eventually becoming Quest, which had it's list of problems. In 2007, property owner, Ned Abdul and other partners concepted Epic, with a $3.5 Million makeover and they are still open today. But they are a concert venue primarily, hosting everything from rap artists and techno DJ's to rock and heavy metal.

Now in 2014 we're down to just one.. and in my opinion, it is the only Night Club in downtown Minneapolis. That club is Aqua.

Aqua does it right. They don't open the doors until 10PM, they don't serve food and they are not a sports bar or a restaurant posing as a night club. They don't showcase concerts have regular daytime hours. They are the real deal night club.

They also use laser lights, confetti cannons and other accessories that make this space the ultimate in downtown Minneapolis for the "Night Club" experience. People come here to do one thing - party. The feeling you get while at Aqua is a bit luxurious, and the owners Steve and Jado Hark treat their customers like Kings and Queens. You can even see them working at the front door. These guys are responsible for their space, in tune with the action and attentive. They really have a loyal following and they recently bought several other venues in town, including the event center across the Hennepin bridge and the Fine Line Music Cafe.

You can indulge with their themed evenings including "Temptation Fridays", "Liquid Saturdays" and of course their bottle service.

You can also check out Rouge at The Lounge. In my opinion, this is the closest contender to to Aqua in downtown Minneapolis. I would classify Rouge as a Class A - hybrid night club / lounge. Your experience is still plush and luxurious, but a bit more relaxing. There are three rooms with three different dance floors though, all playing music. Still it feels more laid back. Many people come here just to hang out all night.

I stop by both of these places all the time. If you venture out on Weekend nights, I recommend Aqua as your "Night Club" destination for top action. Come find me - I'll be there.

  9. The bigger problem was in this time how many people I lied, blamed, and would not listen to. In the end I lost a ridiculous amount of money; but what was worse I lost the trust of everyone in my life. Some have started to forgive me, but others never will. I would not blame them. I still don't trust myself.먹튀검증
